~ Uppermill Band nominated 2007 4barsrest awards Lower Section band of the Year 2007 ~ We are happy to announce that we have been nominated for this award by 4barsrest.com Comments from the category page courtesy of 4barsrest below: "Another band that performed wonderfully well all year, gaining many honours (and the odd disappointment it must be said) along the way. All based on good old fashioned virtues of hard graft and putting the music first, Alan Widdop and his band were excellent value for their win at Pontins which rounded off a season in which they won over £3,200 in prize money. Voting form for all categories can be found here.

Band members celebrate '60 Glorious Years'
Two of Uppermill Band's most popular members were honoured at the Finals Week End, in Harrogate , for their amazing achievements in Banding. Anne Dorman and Brian Jenkins are celebrating 60 years each in their banding career. Anne, who started playing when she was just 8 years old playing for Newton Heath Band on the back row, second cornet. Anne stayed with Newton Heath, occupying the Principle Cornet position for 35 years! The band then became British Aerospace Band, until they disbanded in 1999. Uppermill Band asked Anne to "help out'' at Pontins Championships in 1999 on cornet, she then ended up signing for Uppermill and after a long time on Flugel Horn, Anne is now back on second cornet. Brian Jenkins joined us in 2001 also from British Aerospace Band, playing horn then cornet and now back to horn. Along with Anne, Brian, gave much of his free time in the early days, teaching members of The Newton Heath Junior Band, something which never changes, as Anne & Brian have always been on hand to help any of our players when needed. It would be impossible to say how many Band's both Anne and Brian have "helped out" in their many years of banding, but they have only both ever been registered with two bands, Newton Heath, then becoming British Aerospace, and now Uppermill Band. It is without doubt, an honour to have both of these wonderful people in our band, and we congratulate them both on their achievements. Anne Dorman receives her Trophy from our Chairman Chairman John Ward presents Brian Jenkins with his Trophy A presentation was also made to band Treasurer, Jenny Ward, to thank her for all her organisation & hard work into getting us to Harrogate.
